Family Reunification

Conditions for the applicant (the one in Slovenia)

1. Status: at least a year on a temporary residence permit with the second-year extension approved, or permanent residence.
2. Sufficient income: You need to prove that you have enough funds to support your family. Specifically, for each family member - the amount of the subsistence minimum for a year ahead. For example, the 2025 requirements: €732.17 per month for the main applicant, +€276.38 per month for the spouse, +€286.08 for each child. For a family of 4 this is ~€1,580 per month.
3. Available housing: a rental or ownership agreement will be required, confirming that there is somewhere to accommodate the family.
4. Insurance and other: arriving family members will need to arrange health insurance and provide standard certificates (a criminal record check is sometimes required for adult family members).

Who can reunite early (not wait a year)

• Children, if both parents have obtained a Slovenian residence permit - the application for children can be filed immediately, without waiting a year.
• Blue Card holders: highly qualified specialists can bring their family over right away.
• Newborn children of residents - if a child is born when the parents are already in status, they too are granted a residence permit immediately.
• Digital nomads: also without any waiting period.

Application process

Document package for each family member:

• Application for a residence permit (for reunification).
• Documents confirming the family relationship: marriage certificate, children’s birth certificates + official marriage/birth records (for the Russian Federation: forms No. 5 and No. 4) no older than 3 months, with an apostille and translation.
• Proof of sufficient funds (certificates of your salary in Slovenia for recent months, account statements - at least for 6 months).
• Copies of the passports of all family members.
• Criminal record certificates for each adult (in some cases not required, but better to have, with an apostille).
• Housing document (rental/ownership agreement).
• Colour photos 3.5×4.5 of all applicants.
• Health insurance (travel insurance for a year or until they obtain their residence permit).

The package is submitted to the Upravna enota at your place of residence in Slovenia. If the family applies from abroad - through the Slovenian consulate, the documents are then forwarded to Slovenia.

Processing times

They depend heavily on the city and the workload. In large cities (Ljubljana, Maribor, Koper) the wait can be lengthy - from 2-3 months up to a year in the worst cases. By law there is no fixed deadline; in practice student and work permits take priority, so family ones may wait longer. I inform you of these timelines in advance and, if necessary, make inquiries about the status of the case.
